What is the Meaning & Definition of Copulativos verbs

Verbs are a class of words that form the core of a sentence. This feature is unique among the different types of words, because a single verbal shape provides a full meaning, something which does not happen with the rest of the words. So, if I say it rains, I go or come I am communicating something with full sense.
Verbs can be analyzed using several approaches: according to conjugation, their ways, their tenses, or type. In this entry we will deal copulativos verbs, a particular case in the whole of Spanish verbs.

What are the copulativos verbs

In general verbs communicate various actions (walking, laughing, running, thinking...). However, some verbs do not report actions and, therefore, are an exception. We are talking about the copulativos verbs, whose main characteristic is to associate the subject with the predicate. They are two strictly copulativos verbs, the verb be and being (in some classifications is considered also as copulativo to the verb to seem). If the main verb of a sentence is copulativo, the predicate is a predicate verbal but nominal. Copulativos verbs are called because they serve as a union (or intercourse) between a subject and an attribute.
While in a sentence with a non-copula exists a particular action (for example, in the sentence "friends swam in the swimming pool"), using a copula there is no action in the sentence (for example, in the sentence "my friends are good sprinters", is not happening any action, as the protagonists of the sentence don't really do anything but they are something).

Semicopulativos verbs

Certain verbs may look to the copulativos in the formation of some sentences. For example, verbs found, result, stay, stay or become. This type of verbs to express the State of something and they may have a predicative use (not copulativo) or a semicopulativo use. They would have a sense of the predicative sentences as "that child turned back" or "lecturer kept their arguments". Instead, this type of verbs are considered semicopulativos in sentences such as the following: "the woman went crazy" or "the child remained very quiet".

The difficulty of copulativos verbs be and for foreigners who study Spanish

The distinction between be and exists in very few languages and the Spanish is one of them. This characteristic is not a drawback to a speaker whose own language is the Spanish but it is a problem for foreigners. Thus, simple phrases such as "Is" or "As is" having a different meaning can be easily confused if not distinguished clearly what it means to be and be.
