Matt 8, Huawei phablet

Six inch, design of metal, fingerprint reader, slot Dual-SIM... The new Huawei Mate 8 has just landed in Spain with a starting price of 600 euros, and presents itself as a high-end phablet willing to stand up to the most popular mobile premium in the market.
We have had the opportunity to test thoroughly this Smartphone, and in this analysis of the 8 Mate we told you what we think their technical specifications. How is the quality of the image on the screen? Does well the fingerprint reader? What such are heard in the speakers? Is it great for everyday use? All of these questions, and many more, we answer you in this test.
That Yes, remember that Huawei Mate 8 can be purchased in two different versions: 3 GB of RAM with 32 GB of internal memory and 4 GB of RAM to 64 GB of memory. In this case, which has passed through our hands is the first.

Design

We assume that the Huawei Mate 8 is a mobile big, very big. We are talking about a terminal that includes a six-inch screen, so being aware of this aspect should not be surprising us that its dimensions exceed the 15 cm high and eight centimetres wide, 7.9 mm thick. Weight, on the other hand, reaches 185 grams.
But don't be fooled by the numbers. Huawei 8 Matt leverages to detail every inch of its design, and looking at the mobile front we more than recognize the excellent work done by Asian company with screen frames.
The side edges of the front panel are almost anecdotal, and upper and lower the screen frames do not occupy more space than strictly necessary. The screen, by the way, has a 2. 5 d finish (i.e., is slightly curved at the side).
If we stop to analyze a bit more in depth the design of matte 8, we see that the power button and the volume button are located on the right side of the terminal, while the Dual-SIM tray is located on the left side. The physical buttons also have a finish metal - indeed, Matt 8 housing is completely metal- and they are very well built, since they not give sensation of slack at the tap.
In the back, this terminal stands out for its circular design fingerprint reader. We'll talk more later of its operation, but you can forward that he has not left us indifferent.
On top of the fingerprint reader we have main camera, with a rather curious metallic design around the sensor, and the Dual-LED Flash, which is located to the left of the camera. Speaker - singular - is at the bottom, next to the output microUSB, while the output of audio (mini-jack) is at the top of the mobile.
From the front, the most striking is the LED notifications. Operating system (back, home and Menu) buttons are located within the screen, in the form of virtual keys, just above the logo of Huawei. Both the top frame and bottom frame have a blue color, with an interesting cepillado-circular finish on its surface.
Leaving aside presentations, and if we focus on the sensations that conveyed us this phone in hand, start saying that 8-Matt is a terminal that makes it clear that it belongs to the category of premium of the market from the outset.
Metallic touch is evident in the design, and the high weight (remember, 185 grams) is fairly well compensated over the entire length of the mobile, so the terminal is not uncomfortable to hold with one hand as we have experienced for this review of matte 8. That Yes, it is one thing to hold it, and another is to handle it, as we will see in the section on screen.
The position of the fingerprint reader - which, remember, is located on the back - has a clear disadvantage: screen unable to unlock by footprint if the phone is resting on the table. Moreover, it is quite simple to unlock the screen by using the index finger on the reader. This fingerprint reader, by the way, is of type flat surface (i.e., no need press it so that it recognizes the footprint).

Screen

Talk about a screen of six inches is referring to a mobile type phablet. Huawei Mate 8 is an intended terminal for persons who, either for work or leisure, demand a big screen. For which this size is excessive, it should not be forgotten that the recently presented Matt S Huawei shares many of the features of this mobile phone, with the difference that your screen is 5.5 inches.
In any case, focusing on our review of Huawei Mate 8, we will begin this section by mentioning that the display of this phone reaches a resolution Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, resulting in a density of 368 ppi pixels. The panel on which this screen, unlike other flagships of the market, is housed is IPS-NEO LCD. All this, of course, with the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
But, and what about the quality of the image? Taking into account that the major manufacturers we have grown accustomed to incorporate Quad HD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) in little more than five inches screens, it is logical to think that the resolution Full HD Mate 8 falls short for his six inches.
The reality is very different, since in our test we found that 8 Mate screen responds excellently, with a few colors and sharpness in the image that have made us forget completely think any higher resolution.
Although the panel is not Super AMOLED, Blacks are displayed in a very pure form, even with the brightness to the maximum level. The screen also suffers light leaks, which has enough merit in this size. Angles of vision, on the other hand, allow the viewing of the screen practically from any position, without losing quality in colors.
For the most demanding users, Huawei also offers the possibility of changing the colours of the screen. In the configuration, within "Screen" section, it is possible to disable the default color temperature to modify the well towards the cool colors or warm colors well.
On the other hand, note that the maximum brightness of the 8 matte screen is high sorpendentemente, which facilitates its use in outdoor. On the evidence that we have made in this analysis of the Huawei Mate 8, at least we have not had any problems in using the screen in full light of the Sun.
And what about the management of the screen? Matt 8 is difficult to use with one hand, and it is materially impossible to reach out to deploy the notification Center without using the other hand. If we hold the phone with the right hand, hardly arrive to press beyond the first two thirds of the panel screen.
Still, Huawei has tried to minimize the difficulties of handling which generates a big screen. To do this, it has built-in options as the view of mini display, which allows you to compress the screen in a smaller size, or the keyboard one-hand, which reduces the size of the keyboard and brings it to the side of the screen that the user prefers.

Camera

Huawei Mate 8 main Chamber features a 16-Megapixel sensor that accompanied of a Dual-LED Flash, boasts of features such as a f/2.0 aperture, an optical stabilizer of image or recording Full HD video at 60 frames per second. The front Chamber, for its part, has an eight megapixel sensor.
Having made tests in different environments, we can ensure that Mate 8 camera is called to compete against the cameras of mobile market best. The quality of snapshots, in environments with natural lighting, is frankly good (though there are traces of noise in elements such as, for example, the sky). Indoors, the presence of noise is not alarming (although if inevitable), and the photographs have resulted in one quality more than acceptable.
In regards to the control of the camera, the application of matte 8 works quite optimally, and autofocus properly does its job. The rate of fire is also acceptable, and in our tests we not found with you hang when making a large number of consecutive photographs.
Regarding video recording, the camera responds with good image quality in videos, and stabilizer fulfills its mission. The only aspect that we have disappointed in this section is the zoom during video recordings, since the image blurs completely in the moment in which we try to approach the plane.
In what refers to the camera application, the interface that Huawei has introduced Matt 8 does not require more than a few seconds of initiation to understand where each option is. If we opened the application, on the right side we see a button circular white which allows to take photographs; above this button is the choice of filters, while below you will find direct access to the last picture taken by the camera.
On the left side, with three parallel lines icon hides all imaging modes are there in this mobile. HDR, panoramic, Supernoche, watermark, total focus, professional (i.e., manual mode), realignment of documents, audio note and slow motion are the options available on this menu, accompanied by direct access to the settings.
In addition to these modes, the application also has an interesting paragraph which responds to the name of "Painting with light". In this section you can find options related to creative effects, i.e., different finishes that give a personalized touch to photographs.
"Estela de luz" is an option that allows you to capture the cars light wakes during the night to give rise to these typical pictures in which there are colored lines on the road, while "Soft water" is an option that allows you to smooth the flow of water in - for example - a source. In addition, we also have "Light graffiti" and "Trail of stars".

Performance

8 Matt Huawei feeds a HiSilicon Kirin 950 eight-core processor which, in the company of a Mali-T880 MP4 graphics processor, supports their performance in a 3 GigaBytes RAM. There is also a version of this mobile with 4 GB of RAM, but in our case we only tried the first.
Little we can say the performance of this smart phone more than that all the applications that we have implemented have moved with absolute fluidity. Since apps as popular as YouTube or own browser Chrome to games like Asphalt 8; in all cases, the fluidity of the system has been impeccable, and we have not found any aspect in which we can deposit a complaint.
For the most curious, we will say that, in the proof of AnTuTu, 8-Matt has reached 87.723 points. This result - theoretically - places it above most of the flagships of the market. Geekbench test, the result has been 1,674 points in the test mononucleo-6.111 points on the test multi-core.
Of the 3 GigaBytes of RAM which offers 8-Mate, the reality is that rarely will we available see more 1.5 GB on the mobile. The Android operating system is well known to consume resources in a disproportionate way, and having all applications shut down, Matt 8 shows that half your RAM capacity is occupied by the operating system.
In any case, the reality is Matt 8 suffer no problems on tasks in the background. We can come to have a good number of applications open in the background while mobile suffer the slightest problem of fluency, as well as also we can navigate seamlessly between any of the apps open background.
In what refers to the internal memory, to remember that it is announced with a capacity of 32 GigaBytes, the space that really leaves us free this terminal to turn it on for the first time round the 24 GigaBytes as we have confirmed to write this review of matte 8.
And we don't want to leave the section on performance not to mention the fingerprint reader. 8-Mate is, without fear of mistakes, one of the best readers of traces of the market. Huawei has managed to give the nail of this technology, and the fingerprint reader has a practically negligible response time; nothing more finger rests, the screen is already unlocked. And it doesn't matter if you have wet hands or if the reader is rather dirty; the answer is always equally effective.

Interface

This smartphone from Huawei is shipped with the latest version of the operating system Android: Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This version is complemented with EMUI customization layer, also in its most recent version, EMUI 4.0.
In a nutshell, Huawei Mate 8 did not escape this characteristic Asian look in phones from this manufacturer. While it is true that the Huawei interface has matured much in a matter of few years, the manufacturer work remains ahead to adapt to the European market its customization layers. Asian-style of the icons will have an undoubted success in the Chinese market, but in Europe the tastes of the users are completely different.
Matt 8 interface presents some outstanding details such as, for example, there is a box (or menu) applications; all apps are organized on the main screens, and are available by sliding your finger to one side or the other on the screen. The notification Center is very similar to that bring the P8 Huawei and Huawei P8 Lite, since it is divided into two parts: a tab with notifications (organized by arrival time) and another tab with quick adjustments.
What oriented functions to take advantage of the size phablet of Mate 8? If we keep your finger pressed on the "Menú" button, the phone gives us the option open two applications at once on the screen. Unfortunately, this option is very limited, and beyond basic applications (Gallery, E-mail, calendar, calculator...) we have tired of seeing the notice of "double windows does not support this application". YouTube, Chrome or Google Maps... then what incorporate this function?
To the delight of many users, 8-Matt has FM Radio, though it requires to have connected the headphones to be able to tune to radio stations.

Battery, connectivity and audio

Talk about 4,000 mAh battery capacity of a mobile phone, regardless of the size of the screen, is a synonym for an extended autonomy. And matte 8 is not for less, since in our tests, we have managed to overcome the six hours of screen uncut us the least in the use of mobile: brightness almost to the maximum, WiFi enabled and, in general, use multimedia one hundred per cent.
But, with a big battery, it is expected that the loading time will be to take the hands to the head. Much further from reality, Matt 8 load to 100 percent your battery in about an hour and a half. In our case, based on a 12% remaining battery, get 100% in that time by making use of the charger that comes standard with the mobile (Quick Charge technology, with an output of 5V-2A/9V-2A )).
In addition, this phone also comes standard different options related to energy saving. We can choose between three different modes of power (performance, smart and Ultra), as well as also we can specify which applications we want that continue running once the screen is turned off.
In regard to wireless connectivity, to Huawei Mate 8 not nothing is missing: WiFi, NFC, 4G LTE, FM Radio and a GPS which, according to our tests, offers a fairly accurate map position.
For the part of the sound, have to bear in mind that this smart phone has only a speaker located on the right side of the bottom. The sound quality is quite sharp, and the maximum volume that reaches us not disappointed during the test that we have enjoyed to make the Mate 8 review.

Conclusions

And here comes our analysis of Huawei Mate 8. If we were to give an overview of our experience with this phone, we could say that Matt 8 is a flagship with all of the law, and it is an alternative to take into account users are in search of a phablet.
Metallic design conveys a feeling of a high-end hand finish and, moreover, has no problems with fingerprints. Fingerprints, precisely, aren't a problem for the fingerprint reader, which allows you to unlock the screen at an amazing speed. Performance is 100% fluent, and the camera, at least in photographs outdoors, is to rise to the occasion.
That Yes, to Huawei will work remains ahead. Interface design touches you still need, have missed fewer functions complete to take advantage of the six inch screen and in video recording camera zoom has surprised us negatively.
In regards to the price, it should not be forgotten that we are talking about a mobile 600 euros.
