Marco Abbondanza, Italian physician, was born on June 27, 1953 in Naples, the son of the noted Osvaldo engineer. He graduated in medicine and surgery at the University of Rome in 1983, he then specialise in the same University both in General pathology in both Ophthalmology and ophthalmology, focusing the eye surgery.
Always attentive to research and innovation, is one of the very few Western doctors to have attended the Institute for eye microsurgery in Moscow, USSR, directed by luminary Fyodorov, where he obtained further specializations. Back at home, exploits his experiences and helps to introduce the excimer laser in Italy.
In 1994 he develops a new surgical technique, then completed in 2005, called Mini asymmetric radial Keratotomy (Mini Asymmetric Radial Keratotomy-M.A.R.K.), can correct astigmatism and capable of treating Keratoconus, a rare degenerative disease that if left untreated leads to corneal transplant.
A pioneer in the treatment of cataracts, myopia and astigmatism, continues over the years its commitment to avoid resorting to the cornea transplant, direct commitment to the care of Keratoconus.
In the early 2000s realizes the importance of an invention made in Dresden, Germany, on the cross-linking, a technique parachirurgica able to block the advance of Keratoconus and that Abundance has strongly supported by introducing it in Italy.
Expert in ophthalmological surgery and refractive surgery, Marco Abbondanza has enriched over the years the surgical setting, in order to make the view a right more accessible for everyone.
