August 7, 1958
Paul Bruce Dickinson was born in Nottinghamshire, in Worksop, England, on 7 August 1958, son of a contract to a shoe store and a mechanic in the army. After spending the first years of life at the grandparents (his grandfather, tap dancer, made him listen to the music of Chubby Checker, Beatles and Gerry & the Peacemakers), he moved with his family in Sheffield. 13 Bruce, disobeying parents, he moved to Northampton, in College, but the period of adolescence is not the most happy, thanks the many jokes that he is forced to endure to operate his companions and older students. Not having the ability to watch tv, listen to lots of Music College, Bruce and remains electrocuted by "Child in time" by Deep Purple: band members quickly become his idols, and the first album the boy buys with his money is "In rock".
Eager to imitate the drummer Ian Paice, began playing two Bongos taken from the music room, and slowly increases her self-esteem and confidence in their vehicles and climbed on stage during several performances. One day while singing "Let It Be" together with a friend, he realizes he can reach even the highest notes with ease, and to possess singing ability uncommon: take, so consider starting to sing in a band.
In 1976 he joined the first group, the Styx: the members of the band are immediately awed by his skills. On the whole, however, it melts shortly afterwards, and so the young Bruce Dickinson, once after his studies, he began a military career. His life in the army but lasts just two weeks: that's not an environment that suits him much better going back to College. Enrolled at Queen Mary's College in London in the Faculty of history, joined the band of Speed, band playing any music at speeds uncommon: in practice, the speed metal with some ten years in advance. The fate of the Speed is not so lucky, and thus Bruce, who has learned to play guitar, come into the Shots. Dickinson's microphone skills are obvious: not only when she sings, but even when "interview" members of the public during the concerts. Bruce is then noticed by Barry Graham and Paul Samson, who want him in Samson, group which performs in the most important venues in London. Not only: the Samson have already produced an album, entitled "Survivors", who gained many positive reviews from critics.
The opportunity, then, is not to be missed, and so Bruce Dickinson, once you have completed the exams, he decided to devote himself entirely to music. Relations with the other band members, however, are not of the best, also because of the recurring use of drugs that they do. Soon, then, their ambitions collide, but Bruce, just to become a rocker Pro, accepts to take up smoking and to consume narcotics. After recording discs "Head on" and "Shock Tactics", the band in 1981 discovers that the record label that produces them is going to fail, and cannot pay the many concerts already executed. Obstacles do not end there: Graham left the band during the tour that follows "Shock Tactics", and his place was soon by Mel Gaynor, who, despite being a drummer good (will play later for the Simple Minds) proves totally unsuited to Samson (too precise and, paradoxically, too clean). Bruce Dickinson decides to leave the group, thanks to the will of the other ingredients of bet more on the blues on rock: his last concert with the Samson is staged in 1981 at the Reading Festival. Viewers of that concert are, among others, Rod Smallwood and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, looking for a new singer: Dickinson is immediately called to replace the vocalist Paul Di'Anno.
In 1982 is recorded "The Number of The Beast", Iron Maiden's third record that confirms the global group. Then it was the turn of "Piece of Mind" and "Powerslave", where Bruce Dickinson, dubbed "Air raid siren," showcases all of his vocal skills and behaviour, as well as in "Live After Death", double live album. Pieces like "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", "Flight of Icarus" and "Hallowed be thy Name" are complex and wonderful at the same time, signs of a singing class hard to come by. Until 1986 the Iron Maiden have resulted in five albums completely metal. Dickinson wants to change style, and has several songs inspired by folk, not far from Jethro Tull's style: his proposals, however, are rejected, and the new album, "Somewhere in Time", presents quite a few contributions of Bruce. Different, instead, the fate of "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", disco more alternative that meets the desire of all members, and that creates sophisticated atmosphere thanks to the use of samples and keyboards. In 1990, then, Dickinson gave birth to his first solo album, made together with guitarist Janick Gers.
Always in the same period the ' "Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter", which is part of the soundtrack of the film "Nightmare on Elm Street 5", and the book The adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace "humorous". His career as a writer will then continue with "The missionary position," published in 1992: volume which demonstrates the versatility of Dickinson, exemplified by its ability to fly airplanes, its degrees in literature and history and its ability to fence. Paradoxically to be penalized right now is her singing career, partly because "No Prayer for the Dying", eighth disc of Maiden, is considered a step backwards in the group. A partial ransom arrives with "Fear of the Dark", but now the story with the group is compromised: and so Dickinson, after the tour from which they are drawn "A Real Live One" and "A Real Dead One", left the band, which has sold something like then 50mil albums worldwide.
Replaced by Blaze Bayley in Maiden, Bruce continues his solo career with "Ball to Picasso," published in 1994 and written in collaboration with Roy Z: this album also includes the song "Tears of the Dragon". "Skunkworks", in 1996, recalls grunge sound, while the trials conclude with "Accident of Birth", 1997, and "Chemical wedding" of 1998, two disks that mark a decided return to metal, thanks to the presence of Roy Z and Adrian Smith, former Iron Maiden: folk and heavy metal come together in a successful marriage, perhaps unrepeatable. Dickinson decides to go with Iron Maiden, who published "The X Factor" and "Virtual XI", not before he recorded "Scream for me Brazil", live recorded in 1999 in Sao Paulo.
In the summer of that year, the Maiden share with Bruce for the tour aimed at promoting "Ed Hunter" video game that precedes the release of "Brave New World". The next three discs are "Dance of Death", "A Matter of Life and Death" and "The Final Frontier". Meanwhile in 2002 he released "The Best of Bruce Dickinson", which collects the best of his career. In 2005, however, "Tyranny of Souls" exalts fans and insiders in that emblem and infinite talent receptacle by British pop singer.
In addition to the career of singer, Bruce Dickinson is engaged in aviation, being captain of the airline Aestreus. Among the other flights he led (the interest for aircraft coming from an uncle who had been part of the Raf), also what led Liverpool to Naples during the challenge of Europa League in October 2010. We should also mention the movie "Flight 666" documenting the "Somewhere Back in Time World Tour" of 2008 and includes, in addition to images of concerts and backstage, the shots taken around the globe aboard the famous "Ed Force One" plane headed by Bruce Dickinson, 23 concerts in 13 different countries around the globe who have recorded "sold out".
