Definition of competent

A competent person is one that puts into practice specific skills that show his fitness for that purpose. For example, when a company opens a selection process to choose the most suitable candidate for a job, job interviews, situational tests and psychological tests are aimed to choose the best-qualified candidate, one who has a vocational training and work experience for the performance of the job. The chosen candidate is the more competent.
From the point of view of professional competence, the training is very important to prepare for and acquire technical skills. Practical experience is also vital to be more competent at work.
Before setting up a business to fulfill the dream of creating a company, the autonomous should analyze their own qualities in order to assess whether it is competent for this task of entrepreneurship. For example, an entrepreneur is a person with proactive decision-making capacity, capable of taking decisions under pressure, with the ability to live with uncertainty and self-motivation to being your own boss.
