Definition of Greece

Located to the southeast of Europe, Greece is currently one of the countries of the European Union and also one of which they boasts a history rich and long for the West. Greece is, in geographical terms, a peninsula which has a continental section and an insular section populated by thousands of Islands ranging from the tiniest islands of large as Crete. It is surrounded by the waters of the Mediterranean, as well as the waters of the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea. The Mainland is known as the Peninsula of the Peloponnese while that its 1400 Islands can be divided into large islands such as Crete, Lesvos, Chios and Euboea on the one hand, and the groups of Cyclades Islands (to the South) and Islands of the Dodecanese (to the Southeast), Ionian Islands (to the West). The capital of Greece is the impressive and unique city of Athens.
Greece has one of the most fertile and incredible humanity ancient stories. In this region developed what would be considered the first great civilization of Western: the Greek civilization. This society had huge achievements that were affected by the history of mankind and that are still present in our days. Among these achievements we must mention no doubt democracy, the use of reason, philosophy, history, theatre, the Olympic Games and many other phenomena that made ancient Greece the birthplace of Western humanity.
Today, Greece is a parliamentary Republic, which has a democratic Government. The language spoken in this region is the Greek, another of the great achievements of this civilization. Among the most important cities of Greece we find, besides Athens and its fabulous Parthenon, the cities of Sparta, Samothrace, Thessaloniki, KARPATHOS, Heraklion, Corinth and Patras and many others.
One of the most important legacies, and perhaps the most delicious, is the fabulous Greek gastronomy, based on lathe to products such as olives, oregano, tomato, cheese, onion, numerous fish of sea and delicious sweet delicacies. Finally, we must mention the importance which occupied Greece today as tourist centre not only for its spectacular artistic creations, but also for its beautiful islands bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, in which the Sun seems to never get.
