Definition of Spain

Spain is one of the countries that make up the wonderful European continent. It is located in the Western region of the same and shares its geographical boundaries with Portugal (to the West) and with France and Andorra (to the North), at the same time which is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the South and the Atlantic Ocean to the North. In addition, Spain also has domain on the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands and territories of Africa. The capital of Spain is the beautiful city of Madrid. Spain is now one of the few countries in the world that has the presence of an established monarchy for centuries. Although the Spanish country is currently ruled by a Prime Minister, official Government is that of a parliamentary monarchy as it also happens in the United Kingdom. Another particular feature of Spain is a territory administratively organized in regions or autonomous communities which have each one of them an identity and a distinctive and unique set of traditions: Galicia, Andalusia, Murcia, Extremadura, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque country, Navarre, La Rioja, Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, Castile-La Mancha, Madrid, Castilla and Leon, and others remaining outside of the Mainland as Balearic Islands Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla. The history of Spain is highly rich in terms of identities. Over time, this territory has been inhabited and conquered by a host of ethnic groups such as Romans, Celts, Arabs, Germanic, Basque, Galician, Catalan groups, and many others. It is for this reason that today, Spain has not only a deep richness in terms of languages, art, traditions and identities, if not which must also undergo major ethnic conflicts between the various populations that make up the country. Between cities and major urban centres of Spain we must mention (the capital and the most populous city) Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Jerez, Segovia, Toledo, Ibiza, among others. Each of these cities stands out for particular elements, cultural traditions, history, forms of Government and cultural events of great wealth and peculiarity.
