Definition of traffic

Vehicle or automobile traffic (also called vehicular traffic, or simply traffic) is the phenomenon caused by the flow of vehicles on a road, street or highway. It occurs also with many similarities in other phenomena such as the flow of particles (liquids, gases, or solids) and the pedestrians.
The distinction that is made in English between the words "transit" and "traffic" is the first ("transit") which in Spanish can be renamed "public transport", while the second ("traffic") is approximately equal to "traffic". In Spanish is commonly used "transit" to describe the flow of elements with mobility (move from one place to another by one-way) and "traffic" to the items transported by other means (also refers to trade, negotiate with the money and goods, or do not legitimate business).

Concept of traffic

The term traffic can have different meanings depending on what concerned. It normally has this word negative connotations since it is used to point to any kind of trade of substances, products or items illegally, i.e. out of the commercial or legal parameters of the regions concerned. Traffic as concept can also refer to the transit of vehicles in urban areas, where it is always abundant and, in some cases, it seems up to endless.
If we talk about traffic as a phenomenon that find distribute and sell products or items illegally, we can say that this activity is in all parts of the world, varying not so much in his technique or methodology but rather the object of commercialization, distribution targets or the level of complexity of organizations that carry out. Understood this way, traffic can be both illegal products (like drugs or narcotics) as well as of legal elements which have been stolen or obtained illegally (as for example human bodies, riches) and even of animals (when traffic talk about animals in danger of extinction).
On the other hand, the word traffic also refers to the abundant vehicular traffic, namely, the one that takes place in urban areas and that can generate numerous complications because it involves delays, accidents and lack of control. Throughout the day, the traffic can go by varying its flow and its intensity, peak hours being those in which travels the greatest number of people and becomes even more difficult to move from one side to another.
As you can see, in both cases the notion of traffic has negative connotations since it relates to movements or inappropriate movements of certain elements or objects into other spaces.
