What is a laptop computer?
In the field of the construction of computers, there are three basic types: the computer, the mini-computadoras and personal computers. A laptop computer is a type of personal computer that can be a place to another. Briefly explain each: the computer or computer is a generally a large machine, today tend them to call "supercomputers" even if you are are a little different because they have the latest technology and its uses there are huge differences, now well, over time a supercomputer will convert to a computer.
Minicomputers are which big companies use to manage their most complex transactions, it is the case of a bank that has many terminals attached to a "Server", which is common to use this term for it but also applies to some personal computers that perform similar functions. The personal computer is a less powerful machine and smaller than the previous ones, also called desktop.
A laptop is characterized by weighing at most 5 kg (although the standard has dropped to 3 kg today day, or less), have almost all the capabilities of a desktop (fixed) machine and have the independence of several hours without being connected to the mains by a battery. The Epson company has the honor of having built the first portable: HX-20 which announced in 1981 and sold until 1983, many other portable use this as a model later. Currently there are several models and are often called "laptop" which translates literally as "on the lap", referring to the small thing that are these computers, enough as to use them on the thighs when sitting. Also referred to as "folding", as the current laptops have this feature: are folded on themselves.
There are many models, and today they are fashionable "netbook" that are sometimes called Ultraportables. They have little powerful processors and very basic video cards or lack all of them. Having such limited resources occupy very lightweight operating systems, so the derived Linux systems are highly sought after for these machines. They usually have systems highly efficient Internet access and from there its name. Many even lack hard, riding on a usb stick on a portable hard drive or operating system.
The great advantage of these machines is in cost, they are significantly cheaper that a "laptop" retains many of its features and the convenience of its size advantage. Its limited resources and the small size of their keyboards and monitors are a minor inconvenient that many obviate easily. It is also the security, a "netbook" is easy to hide from the sight of the alien friends, while a "laptop" or traditional laptop is more visible and striking.
