Exfoliation (also called "scrub") is the action and the effect to exfoliate. This verb, which stands for "erase", meanwhile, means to eliminate dead skin cells or split something in sheets or dander.
Exfoliation, therefore, can refer to a cosmetic treatment which is done to eliminate dead cells of the skin or flaky skin loss.
As a cosmetic treatment, exfoliation is a procedure for rejuvenation of the face, given that dead cells are removed by physical or chemical action.
You can exfoliate the skin using mechanical abrasion (with sandpaper or a dermatological scalpel), the action of a laser or using creams or gels. The objective is always the same: eliminate dead skin cells in one form or another.
Called scrub with chemical exfoliation with substances such as salicylic acid or phenol. This treatment, which must be done by a professional, allows you to improve the appearance of skin and erase damage produced by scars, the rays of the Sun, acne, etc.
For Dermatology, exfoliation can also be the natural process of skin cell renewal. Under certain conditions (such as from the diseases of the skin), the skin becomes flaky dead cells accumulate in the epidermis.
The removal of the leaves of a plant is another process called exfoliation. Exfoliation can occur by natural causes (the life cycle) or external (the force of the wind).
