What is the Meaning of Civilization | Definition and What is Civilization
Civilization is the action and the effect of civilizing (improving training and the behaviour of people, raise the cultural level of a company). Civilization is therefore the cultural status of the most advanced companies in relation to their level of science, arts, etc.
In general, the concept is used to refer to a complex society different from tribal societies of antiquity. The term is also used as a synonym for progress. Examples: "civilization has not arrived here", "We can not allow that hundreds of people living outside of civilization and they fight like animals", "When I was a teenager, I was dreaming to abandon civilization and go live in the countryside."
As a cultural stage, civilization succeeds to the savagery and barbarism. Considering that civilization started from the fifteenth century to the Age of discoveries (great discoveries) and it is set from the 18th century with the Industrial Revolution.
The notion of civilization, on the other hand, can be used as a synonym for culture. Thus, civilization is a vision of the world or an ideology, with values, customs, beliefs and different institutions: "the Mayan civilization was one of the precursors of Astronomy", "many people think that, following the attacks of September 11, 2001, there was a clash of civilization between the East and the West.
The process of expansion of Western civilization is called globalization. This is a comprehensive process involving the interdependence of countries, the unification of markets and cultures, the imposition of capitalism and liberal democracy.
