Latin compressor, compressor is what compresses (press, oppresses, reduced to a lower volume). The term is used to refer to any machine which, thanks to an increase in pressure, is able to move such compressible fluids gases.
Compressor not only manages to move fluids, but also to change the density and the temperature of the compressible fluid. Compressors are used in different areas, such as in conditioners (air conditioning devices), refrigerators, turbojet engines and power generation systems.
According to the method of energy exchange, the compressors can be grouped into different types, such as reciprocating compressors or piston (where the valves open and close to pick up or compress the gas), rotary compressors (with rotating screws) or centrifugal compressors (employing a rotor-dynamic), among others.
On the other hand, compressor means any computer program (software) to reduce the size of a digital file. To achieve compression, these software are seeking possible redundancies in files to eliminate which allows deleting information while reducing the weight (size of files) without loss of quality.
An audio compressor, finally, is an electronic processor of its capable of reducing the range (or the beach) dynamics of a signal. These compressors work by reducing the electrical signal on a certain number of decibels to protect appliances equipment of any signal peaks or to conceal the error of a saturated sound.
These compressors are used in the (direct sound) concerts and recordings. If a bass player strikes the strings with a finger during a live performance, the generated effect may damage the amplifier in the absence of a compressor.
