Evangelism is the action and the effect to evangelize. This verb, which derives from the latin evangelizāre is to preach the Christian virtues and the faith of Jesus Christ.
Examples: "the evangelization of the native peoples of America was made with the Bible in one hand and a gun in the other", «the Argentine priest devoted much of his life to evangelization in Africa», «I have always considered that evangelism is one of the most important aspects of the priestly task».
It is said that evangelization began with Jesus Christ himself, who was the head of the dissemination of the word of God. Just as Jesus was sent by the father to evangelize, he urged his followers in the same mission.
The Catholic Church, therefore, is born to promote the Christian truths to add followers and build the Kingdom of God on Earth. In practice, this task was much more that acts of faith since evangelisation is also mixed with the policy including the wars of conquest.
What is revealed through evangelism can change according to the Evangelist. Some focus on the declaration of the return of Jesus Christ to save humanity, while others claim that the sacrifice of Jesus represents the salvation of all people.
In a certain extent, evangelism is a task that corresponds to all members of the church because it is one of the commandments of Jesus - Christ to all the faithful, as we can read in the New Testament.
