He was born on December 24, 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Known as "Kiki" or "Quiquito" by the intimate. Son of Nereida Morales, accounting, and Enrique Martín Negroni, psychologist. His parents divorced when he was two years old and spent much of his childhood between his father's House and the home of her paternal grandmother. It has two maternal half-brothers, Fernando and Ángel Fernández, and two paternal half-SIB, Eric and Daniel Martin, and a paternal half-sister Vanessa Martin. Her maternal grandmother was born in Spain. He grew up in a Catholic environment and was an altar boy throughout his childhood.
Since his childhood he had fans by the entertainment industry. He performed in choirs and school theatre. When he was six years appears in television commercials and takes classes in acting and singing. He tried to enter the group "often", although it was rejected for being too young still. He was finally selected when he was 12 years old. After five years of incessant work, tours, recordings, and essays with the group, he left and moved to New York to study, and later to Mexico, where he worked as an actor and singer.
With his first solo album titled "Ricky Martin" earned eight gold albums in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Puerto Rico and United States. After releasing their second album, "I love", moved to Los Angeles, place where was transformed into fashion Heartthrob for his role as "Miguel" in the soap opera "General Hospital". Later it appeared as "Marius" in the Broadway production of "Les Miserables".
Their third album, "A live environment", produced by Robi Rosa and KC Porter (producer of Boyzz II Men, Bon Jovi, Patti LaBelle, Richard Marx), sold more than six hundred thousand copies in six months, and was certified gold by the RIAA on October 27, 1997. "Returns" repeated that success, and the RIAA certified it gold, on 7 July 1998. The album sold over six million copies worldwide.
He worked in commercial television as the spokesperson for tourism in Puerto Rico. In 1999 released a new album, "Ricky Martin", with songs in English and Spanish and debuted as number one on the list of 200 albums of Billboard magazine, with the largest number of sales in the first week (660,000 copies). In 2000, he presented "Sound Loaded". In 2001, appears in Castilian, a greatest hits called "history", and in the same year published his greatest hits "The Best of Ricky Martin" in English. In 2003, he published "souls of silence", and in 2005 he recorded "Life". In August 2006 he recorded an acoustic concert (MTV Unplugged). On 26 February 2007, it occurs for the second time at Festival International of the song of Viña del Mar, receiving awards silver torch, torch of gold and double silver Gull.
In April 2007 he started the black and white Tour by United States; suffering from backaches because of a herniated disk and had to suspend two of its concerts. On 8 November 2007, at the 8th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, won the category best vocal pop male album, MTV unplugged, and the category best music video long version, for the same disk. His awards include the personality of 2006 Award, awarded by the Academy of Sciences of the recordings, the Latin Grammy Organization for its artistic excellence and philanthropic work, Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, MTV Asia Awards, MTV European Music Award, World Music Award, American Music Award, Premio Lo Nuestro, Latin Billboard Award, Alma awards and Blockbuster Awards, among others.
Although he was raised as a Catholic, it is open to all kinds of religious beliefs, and Buddhist philosophy. He started practicing yoga after a trip to Thailand in 1997. In November 2011, it acquired Spanish nationality in recognition of his artistic talent and having roots in the country.
It maintained an intermittent relationship with Mexican TV personality Rebecca de Alba for more than 14 years. In August 2008, he became the father of twin boys, Matteo and Valentino, born to a surrogate mother. March 29, 2010, publicly acknowledged his homosexuality: "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am." November 2, 2010 published his autobiography: "I" that is put on sale seven months since the singer made public his homosexuality. In 2011, during his acceptance speech for the Vito Russo award at the GLAAD awards 22a, it had words of agradecimineto for her boyfriend, Carlos González Abella. Their relationship ended in January 2014.
