Taiwan is the official name given to one of the provinces or States of China, which is an island located to the southeast of the Mainland and separated from the same territory across the Taiwan Strait. The surface of this island is almost 36 thousand square kilometers, while its current population exceeds 23 million inhabitants. The capital city of the State of Taiwan is the beautiful and amazing city of Taipei.
Taiwan is perhaps one of the most interesting and striking China regions. In its history we find presence and domination of a myriad of both Asian and also European cultures, especially when these (headed by the Portuguese) came into contact with local societies in the 17TH century. Therefore, that Taiwan is a region with many contrasts in which we can find great and modern cities that combine comfort with luxury and rural areas still immersed in a quite impoverished and traditional lifestyle.
