What is the Meaning & Definition of territory
The concept of territory is broad and diverse. In geography, it is largely used, and if in some cases its use has a political conception, in others it is more closely linked with variations of region, space, landscape and climate. In physics, for example, territory refers to the Earth's surface or relief, and therefore is linked to the notions of lithosphere, atmosphere, and others. For Ecology territory is synonymous of natural environment, environment of the human being in its relationship with nature. In astronomy and space tradition, territory not already holds a political or legal aspect, but it has to do with systems understood as places interconnected by networks and flows. For the study of landscape architecture, to cite another example, territory is synonymous of natural or cultural landscape which implies a relationship with the society use of soil.
All these branches and disciplines, with greater interest has studied the concept of territory is the political geography. As such, it investigates the use of a territory as a physical space dominated by a person or social group against others. The territory is often synonymous with State and national power, in intimate relationship with the concepts of territorial organization and administrative division that are inherent to the development of a nation that boasts of such.
But the concept of territory is complex and not always has a connotation of legality. In certain cases or contexts the territory, the land, the land, may be usurped or enjoyed by individuals or social groups that do not have it and, given the conditions, these individuals can eventually become legal owners of the territory concerned.
