Veganism, an ethical approach in the way we feed ourselves

Vegan people are those who do not consume animal foods in your diet. This type of power is not an issue based on the taste of certain foods or a decision aimed to stay thin and healthy. Homemade tofu

Vegans will renounce taking animal meat and this produces have to be resourceful and creative to find valid food alternatives. In this sense, the homemade tofu is an excellent alternative.
Tofu is easy to prepare and the ingredients are as follows: soybean milk, lemon juice (four litres of milk are needed 250 ml of lemon juice) and salt type nigari, which is traditional in Japan and used to curdle soya milk. A fairly simple procedure achieves high quality homemade tofu. Nowadays it is possible to find it in many supermarkets, but connoisseurs consider the homemade and traditional choice is the best.

The origin of tofu

In Japan the tofu is a traditional food, but comes from China, very probably from the Buddhist tradition. It should take into account that the tofu is a source of protein and that Buddhists are strict in relation to the vegetarian diet, so tofu in its origin was a perfect solution to keep its philosophical principles and at the same time to feed themselves properly.
The tofu was known in the West from the century XVll, when some Christian missionaries came into contact with the Japanese.

Tofu recipes

This food has a great versatility and with it it is possible to prepare different recipes. Thus, you can make fried tofu and combine it with sauce, peppers of piquillo peppers and walnuts, tofu pumpkin pate and smoked (as the Pâte of pork or duck is not part of the diet vegan). As an appetizer you can take tofu with soy sauce and Sesame, grilled with lemon and pepper or combine it with a salad of watercress and tomatoes.
From a nutritional point of view, should take into account that the tofu is not fattening, since it does not contain fats. Another advantage is its low flavor and is very soft to the palate, so it is feasible to combine it with different flavors.
