The term urbanism is one that is used to refer to the practice whereby it is planned, plans and organizes a city. Urban planning and the urbanity serve both from the beginning or from the moment in which a city is founded as well as throughout its history, when changes, improvements or innovations in your space should be carried out.
Although it seems simple, pursue the civility or the planning of a city is not easy and is not dependent on just elements of beauty or good taste if that doesn't take into account a host of conditions ranging from weather to land issues, economic, political, of transit, etc. In other words, any modification that is intended to you make a city involves considerations well clear and safe.
It is considered that the history of urbanism arises as such with the founding of cities at the hands of the Romans during the time of the Empire. This is so since the Romans took a city model and then imposed it in all the conquered areas. This type of city was one in which there was always room for a public square and, preferably, the streets had to follow an orderly grid. Later, this model would expand across Europe even to America at the hands of the Spaniards and their cities founded after the conquest. Let us remember that in latin urbs means city.
Currently, urbanism is linked largely to architecture since it relates to the construction of spaces open or closed according to the possibilities and needs of the space. Urban planning deals with deciding what type of transport routes, which urban complex, open spaces, residential areas, monuments, etc. can be in each place. Often marches and setbacks in urban planning can make a city change significantly their profile according to more modern theories, while in other cases the urbanism is primarily concerned with preserve those buildings or older constructions built everything around guided by this rule.
