16 September 1829
8 January 1898
Jean Joseph Achille Emperaire was born in Aix-en-Provence on 16 September 1829. He was a French painter who did not have much luck. He was the author of numerous drawings in red chalk and is characterized by a predilection to curved shapes that approaches the Impressionist paintings of his compatriot, friend and countryman Paul Cézanne. As mentioned, the artist's career of Achille Emperaire was unfortunately marked by misfortune and misery: what remains of his paintings and his works is a painting unique and intriguing. By analogy with his name, he was given the nickname of "Imperator". The French painter died in his native country (in Aix-en-Provence) 8 January 1898 at the age of 67 years. Him Cézanne left us a portrait titled "Achille Emperaire," which, seated on a throne, returns to his friend the glory that in life he had the good fortune to meet.
