Andrea De Carlo was born in Milan the December 11, 1952. The mother, the father, works as a translator, Piedmont, Genoa (but of Sicilian-Chilean sources), is an architect. Grew up in Milan, without loving it: pleasant memories of his childhood are linked to wild summers in Bocca di Magra, a small fishing village at the mouth of a river, on the border between Liguria and Tuscany. Andrea reads a lot, since childhood. He attended the liceo classico Berchet of Milan, then enrolled in the Faculty of modern letters at the University. In his university years remains with the work of photographer. Also plays guitar in a trio acoustic blues. In these years writing a first novel ever published. He left for the United States with the idea of never come back. He went to Boston, then New York, in a colder winter in recent memory. Andrea De Carlo then crosses the continent westward, with a car to be delivered to Los Angeles.
Turns out California, and settled in Santa Barbara. Here he works as a teacher of Italian and drives a pickup truck for delivery of frozen chickens. Stops playing the guitar. Back in Italy and holds a degree in modern history, with a thesis on anarchist community during the Spanish civil war. Writing a second novel, this one never published. Between the job of waiter and language teacher, Andrea De Carlo begins a third novel, in English, with the title "Cream Train". Back in Italy and settled in the countryside near the town of Urbino. Ends in Italian on his novel "cream Train".
Sending the manuscript to several publishers, none of which meets. Eventually a friend advises him to send him to Italo Calvino. Don't spend a lot of time and, thanks to Calvin, who pays homage to its introduction in the spring of 1981 the book is published by Einaudi. In a mountain village on the border with France, Andrea De Carlo begins "cage and Aviary birds". Released in the spring of 1982, one year after the first novel. The delivery of a literary prize in Treviso knows Federico Fellini, expressing his appreciation for his books, proposes to Andrea De Carlo to work with him. He went to Rome and works as an Assistant Director in "E la nave va". Towards the end of filming Dadi runs a short film on Fellini and his actors, titled "faces of Fellini". Shortly afterwards De Carlo works with Michelangelo Antonioni on the script of a movie that will never be realized. While out in bookstores on his third work "Macno" (1984), Milano was born his daughter Malina. Dahabra he then goes in the United States with Federico Fellini to meet Carlos Castaneda and write a movie based on his books. After long conversations and a trip to Mexico, Castaneda disappears, alarmed by worrying signs. Urbino begins "two by two", but after the first three chapters gives up the job. Writes instead "Yucatan", which tells in the form of novel the strange affair with Castaneda.
Back to Rome to direct a film loosely based on New York between Cinecittà and at her first novel, Treno di panna ", with Sergio Rubini as the protagonist. Writes with musician Ludovico Einaudi "Time Out", a ballet for the theatre, staged by the American Group of ISO. Back to Urbino takes "two by two", coming out in the fall of 1989. Writes then the novels "techniques of seduction" and "Arcodamore". Writes, always with Ludovico Einaudi, Salgari Ballet, staged by Daniel Ezralow with the Corps de ballet of Verona. Then other novels: "Uto", "the three of us", "in the moment". Creator of an interesting initiative which sees the author of the novel the author of music to listen to during his reading, Andrea De Carlo has composed and performed the music for the cd "some names" (2002), attachment to the novel "true names", the soundtrack to the film "men & women, loves & lies" (2003), and the cd "in ride of the wind" (2004).
