Biography of Francisco of the Rosario Sanchez

Francisco de el Rosario Sánchez
Dominican lawyer and politician

He was born March 9, 1817 in which was then called El Tapao Street, and today is March 19 in Santo Domingo. Son of Narciso Sánchez and Olaya de el Rosario.
Together with his brother Thomas, he received the first teachings of his mother and later became a disciple of Father Gaspar Hernández, Peruvian priest who was fond of the separation of Haiti and was master of almost all the Trinitarians. The chairs of Gaspar Hernández contributed to strengthen their patriotic spirit and influenced its subsequent determination to fight for the independence of the country.
Sanchez was part of the secret society La Trinitaria, founded by Juan Pablo Duarte, who fought for the 1843 insurrection against Haitian domination. He is a collaborator between 1843 and 1873 in the successive Governments of Pedro Santana. It was very criticized from some sectors for their support to Governments that conducive to the annexation of Santo Domingo by other Nations. However modified his stance to be at the forefront of the fight against the annexation of the country to Spain, decided by Santana.
Sanchez chose confrontation front and raised his arms in the South. Wounded and made prisoner in Lima along with 20 others, was taken to San Juan de la Maguana. Tried and convicted in the today's Park Francisco de el Rosario Sánchez, he was shot in the cemetery on July 4, 1861.
