Biography of Graziano Delrio

April 27, 1960
Graziano Delrio was born on 27 April 1960 in Reggio nell'emilia, the son of a building contractor. Communist family, grows in the parish (the Church of San Pellegrino, on the outskirts: he lives in the neighborhood of Rosta Vecchia), being involved from the teachings of don Giuseppe Dossetti, grandson of the Christian Democrat politician. Passionate about football, he also performs an audition with AC Milan: exceeds it, but decided to stay in Emilia, militating in Montecavolo, a local team. At twenty-two he married Annamaria, pregnant with their first child, Emanuele (the first of nine: others will be Elizabeth, Luke, Matthew, Michele, Benedetta, Maria Chiara, Teresa and John).

Academic studies at the entrance into politics

He graduated in medicine, specializing in Endocrinology and then embark on an academic career. After having completed his studies in Israel and Britain, he became a researcher and lecturer at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. In 1999 he serves his first job in politics: nearly forty years enters the City Council of Reggio Emilia (for the Italian people's Party) taking over from Joseph Davoli, became Alderman. The following year he was elected member of the Regional Council of Emilia Romagna, gaining more than 4 thousand grades: in Council, is Chairman of the health and social policies.

The years 2000

After he joined the Margherita, in 2004--thanks to good relations with Pierluigi Castagnetti-is a candidate for mayor of Reggio Emilia: local elections of 12 and 13 June is elected Mayor, resulting in the first round the 63.2% of the vote. Graziano Delrio thus becomes the first mayor of the city over the past sixty years to not be a member of the Italian Communist Party. In 2005, becomes Vice President of Anci, the National Association of Italian municipalities, assuming responsibility for welfare. Joined the Democratic Party and reconfirmed as head of Reggio Emilia even during the subsequent administrative, those of June 2009, with 52.5 percent of votes obtained in the first round, remains Vice President of Anci assuming-that year-the powers to local finance and human resources.

The years 2010

In 2011 he wrote his first book, entitled "City of the people. In the same year, Graziano Delrio is elected President of Anci (National Association of Italian municipalities), taking the place of the former Mayor of Turin Sergio Chiamparino. The Government Viewed the Government Renzi

On 28 April of 2013 was appointed Minister for Regional Affairs and local authorities in the Government of Enrico Letta. A few days earlier, had lined up in favor of Romano Prodi for the election of the new President of the Republic (as the Secretary of the Democratic Party, Pier Luigi Bersani had proposed the name of Franco Marini), contributing-albeit small-at constitutional crisis that had led to the re-election of Giorgio Napolitano.
