Definition of mud

The mud is a moist soil that is extracted from a vein of Earth in the mountains. This land is obtained from the so-called clayey lands. From a cultural point of view, the mud is associated with the art of pottery, an activity which is currently eminently decorative, but over the millennia has been fundamental in most civilizations. Since the most remote times potters have made all kinds of objects from clay: to facilitate the everyday life, for the storage of products, for construction or as decorative objects.
Parts of the old potters clay have a historical value today, as archaeologists can learn about the daily life of a people and their culture knowing the clay figures which manufactured and the techniques they employed in their preparation.
Likewise, it should not be forgotten that than the mud becomes an essential element to promote manual creativity of children and the adult; even blind people can create figures using it, as it has suitable characteristics.

The mud in everyday language and in different areas of society

The presence of mud is normally associated with dirt and for this reason the term mud is used to express ideas with a negative connotation. So, when someone is discredited for some reason said that his name is dragged through the mud.
From a social and cultural point of view, the mud is present in all kinds of manifestations: mud fights, racing cross or mountain biking, trial, etc. In all these activities the clay provides a technical difficulty that it is key to make more attractive this type of sports or recreational activities.
The mud is a substance with therapeutic properties. Its benefits are well known: improves circulation, serves as a relaxing muscle and it is used to relieve certain pains of joints (mud therapy is currently very present in alternative health centres and spas).
Nor should we forget its presence in the sector of cosmetics, especially in relation to the care of the skin, since the clay acts as a disinfectant and detoxifying. Obviously, not all clays are suitable for cosmetics (the most widely used is known as white clay or kaolin, but also used the bentonite, the higher or the refractory, each with specific properties).
The benefits of clay for healing therapies and aesthetic issues have a reason with a scientific basis: ores containing are beneficial for the organism (silica strengthens certain tissues of the human body, the magnesium provides vitamins and calcium helps bones).
