Communication is one of the pillars in a happy relationship. Assertive communication influences in friendship, relationships, family relationships and, of course, also in the professional context. Assertive communication is rewarding even in the relationship that a person with itself. What is assertive communication? Assertiveness is the attitude that has a person to express his point of view in a way clear and in a totally respectful way to the interlocutor.

Understanding the importance of assertive communication with an example that occurs very often

Assertive communication prevents common errors such as, personal attacks and the criticisms (which generate still more distance communication) and committed to the expression of feelings in first person. Then we have a clear example of what is assertiveness.
For example, when two friends are to go to the movies, and one of them arrives half an hour late without prior notice can occur three possible scenarios:
1 there are people who face this kind of situation may act in a passive mode repressing his discomfort and receiving friend as if not would have felt uncomfortable for a long wait.
2. on the opposite side of the scale possible aggressive attitude of that friend who, tired of waiting and with their patience exhausted, receiving his friend with accusations and an ira attack.
3. on the other hand, there is also a third (healthier) possible attitude that is the assertive attitude. A person is assertive, in this type of situation, could express his point of view in this way: "I feel hurt when you arrive so late and not show up previously because I feel that you do not value my time". I.e. it's a phrase in which the person justifies his way of feeling from an objective fact.

An effective alternative to aggressiveness or passivity

Why is so useful and constructive assertive communication against the aggressiveness or passivity it? Because it is a kind of dialogue that enhances empathy between the transmitter and the receiver, therefore, occurs an approach in personal attitudes which enhances mutual understanding.
There are some words that are a clear example of assertive message: thank you, sorry and please. Messages when they are reinforced in the professional context, also improving thanks to a communicative environment friendly and rewarding working environment.
