Meaning and Definition of Availability

Definition of availability

The concept of availability is used in various fields and spheres to make reference to the possibility that something, a product or a phenomenon, is available from being made, found or used. Availability means that thing or product, for example a SOAP, is available to be used. To be available means at the same time that one can have this as it is accessible, is within reach of the hand or simply because it is possible to do so.
The notion of availability is much used for matters such as products or items that can be consumed by people. Thus, it is normal to say that there is availability of milk, butter or cheese when one goes to the supermarket and observes that the shelves are complete. The lack of availability of certain products (such as more expensive or exclusive products or commodities that are not available for certain and specific situations) makes the same prices higher since the demand is greater than supply. We can say, then, that the availability of consumables certainly affects prices and economic variables.
Availability, can also refer to other elements or situations. When a person claims to be available it means normally has no partner or that it is not committed to any situation, which means that it has freedom to act as it wishes.
In the field of culture or cultural production, the notion of availability relates to products which may be unique or difficult to obtain against others that occur on a massive scale and which are obtained in all businesses or stores specialized in selling them. As mentioned, a book or cultural element that is considered exclusive or not available probably cost much more expensive than those that are available every day at any space or business.
