What is the Meaning & Definition of Géronte

The term geronte is a term used to refer to those people who are already in what is normally known as "seniors" or who are elderly and maintaining other features such as not be forced to work. The word geronte comes from the Greek language, in which the term geron meaning 'elder'. Although the concept of géronte is not as commonly used in oral and informal language, is this word which gives other related words such as geriatric, where reside the elderly.
The term of géronte was used in ancient Greece to designate older and already elderly people who were considered at the time as the most important sector of society. This was because the elderly people formed a Council called gerusia which could go in search of advice and assistance especially in regards to political or administrative issues. This shows us that at this time for the Greek society being elder was just a sample value, wisdom and power.
Today, this vision about the elderly people has changed, and this has to do with the development of a type of society in which productivity and consumption are very important axis of its operation. Thus, young people is now preferred by being able to produce more and better and also for being the most consumed. Elements such as wisdom or knowledge that one accumulates over the life have passed into the background.
Another proof of this situation is precisely the existence of exclusive to elderly people or elderly residential places: the geriatric. There, families enroll their grandparents or elderly as long as professionals to take care of them and limiting their responsibilities on those.
