All schools need a set of rules to ensure an appropriate order in the teaching process. These standards are reflected in a school regulation.
The fundamental idea of any school rules is to establish what is allowed and, above all, what is prohibited in relation to the behaviour of teachers and students.

Basis for the proper functioning of a community

The school rules is a document that specifies in detail what is the internal regime that should govern patterns of behaviour of the entire educational community. There are a number of aspects that are often collected in this type of document: respect for the established schedules, what behaviors are not admissible and its corresponding sanctions, standards of hygiene, as well as general patterns in the relationships between teachers and students.

Purpose of the regulation school

A school regulation is not simply a set of prohibitions but it must have a purpose educational and formative. For this reason, the regulations should be known by students, so that a teacher explain the meaning of the same. Students must understand that the regulation is positive and is not a sanctioning regime.

From a social point of view, there is a debate about what should be the type of school regulations. One could speak of two positions. Some argue that the regulation must be strict, in its content and in its application. On the other hand, others consider that the regulations must be flexible and its practical application has to adapt to the circumstances of each academic context.
Consequently, there are two educational methodologies related to school rules. The most strict emphasis on sanctioning elements and the more permissive considered that the idea of prohibition should be replaced by prevention and dialogue.
