He was born January 8, 1824, in San Luis Potosí.
Son of José María González Yáñez, of military, Spanish nationality at the service of the Royalist Army, and Francisca Bocanegra and Villalpando, native of Pinos, Zacatecas; sister of José María Bocanegra, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of don Vicente Guerrero.
He left the country by law that decreed the expulsion of the Spaniards in 1827. On December 28, 1836, the family returned to Mexico, to the city of San Luis Potosí, where the young Francis was devoted to trade and in 1846 moved to the City of Mexico, where he published his first poems.
