What is respect?
Respectful people are distinguished by their attitude and their way of acting. Respect is one of the most important values that exist in various cultures, as it enables good social interactions, as well as acceptance of the differences and needs of those around us.
Respect must be a reciprocal act between individuals and is accompanied by tolerance. Listening and sharing ideas or feelings is a way to appreciate, accept and consider the other person or their environment.
Self respect
Before being respected by others, one must first respect oneself as a person. We must also accept and respect our own beliefs, our differences as well as the values with which we act with our immediate environment.
The respect of others
The diversity of opinions and cultures should not be a barrier between individuals. We must respect each other and understand that there are rights and duties that identify people as equal citizens, despite their differences.
Respect for the family
The family is one of the most important institutions in any society, for it is the family that has the task of teaching and building human values. Therefore, we should respect all family members, listen carefully to the advice of the elderly, be grateful and considerate of each of our parents, grandparents, brothers, uncles and other family members.
Respect for nature
Living beings (humans, animals, plants) form a chain in which all the parts are intertwined so that the life of some depends on the other. Therefore, human beings must act and carefully use the natural resources at their disposal in order to reduce the negative effects of their actions on the rest of the living things on whom they depend for survival.
Respect for life
Everyone must respect and take care of the different forms of life, both human and animal and botanical. Endangering the lives of other beings by one's actions is a serious act of disrespect.
Respect for the elderly
Older people should be treated with respect and kindness. Treating the elderly in this way is proof of goodness, but also of affection towards this category of people who often need help or companionship.
Respect for children
Adults have a duty to protect, educate and take care of the little ones in the house. Childhood is a stage in the life of the human being which must be respected in every child. It is a phase of growth during which the human being presents a specific psychology, different from that of adults, and which must be respected so as not to disturb the harmonious development of the child. This is the reason why the child needs the protection of adults.
Respect for diversity
Respect for the diversity of race, opinions, religious beliefs, political orientations, among many other actions that differentiate us as individuals and societies must be valued in all human activities. Humans are supposed to live without disrespecting or devaluing others because of the differences that exist among them.
Respect for freedom
Everyone has the right to act and freely express their feelings and opinions, as long as they respect those around them and the environment in which they find themselves.
Political respect
In every country, there are political organizations that differ from each other due to their ethical, moral and political ideology to which citizens adhere. In other words, there are different political orientations among the citizens. These differences must be respected despite the fact that sometimes the position or opinions are not unanimous among citizens.
