‘LISTEN AND UNDERSTAND THE MEANING’

“Listen to me, all of you, and understand the meaning.”—MARK 7:14.

WHAT LESSON DO YOU LEARN FROM THE ILLUSTRATION ABOUT . . .

• the mustard grain?
• the leaven?
• the traveling merchant and the hidden treasure?

(1 Corinthians 14:9) In the same way, unless you with the tongue use speech that is easily understood, how will anyone know what is being said? You will, in fact, be speaking into the air.
(Mark 7:14) So calling the crowd to him again, he said to them: “Listen to me, all of you, and understand the meaning.

(Mark 7:9) Further, he said to them: “You skillfully disregard the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.
(Matthew 13:13-15) That is why I speak to them by the use of illustrations; for looking, they look in vain, and hearing, they hear in vain, nor do they get the sense of it. 14 And the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled in their case. It says: ‘You will indeed hear but by no means get the sense of it, and you will indeed look but by no means see. 15 For the heart of this people has grown unreceptive, and with their ears they have heard without response, and they have shut their eyes, so that they might never see with their eyes and hear with their ears and get the sense of it with their hearts and turn back and I heal them.’

(Matthew 13:16) “However, happy are your eyes because they see and your ears because they hear.
(Matthew 13:36) Then after dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples came to him and said: “Explain to us the illustration of the weeds in the field.”
(Mark 7:17) Now when he had entered a house away from the crowd, his disciples began to question him about the illustration.
(Matthew 13:11, 12) In reply he said: “To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the Kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not granted. 12 For whoever has, more will be given him, and he will be made to abound; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
(Matthew 13:51, 52) “Did you get the sense of all these things?” They said to him: “Yes.” 52 Then he said to them: “That being the case, every public instructor who is taught about the Kingdom of the heavens is like a man, the master of the house, who brings out of his treasure store things both new and old.”
